Painting Tips and Tricks
How It Works
Discover how easy and fun it is to create your own masterpiece!
At Glow & Glaze Studio, you simply pick your pottery, choose your colours, and start painting — we’ll glaze and fire it for a beautiful, shiny finish.
01
Important Glazing Notes
-
Before painting, please wipe your pottery with the damp sponge provided at your table to remove dust or residue.
-
Please make sure your hands are clean and not oily before you begin painting.
-
For best results, apply 2–3 even coats of paint.
-
Applying too much paint may cause firing issues such as texture changes, pinholes, or glaze movement.
-
Colours will appear lighter and chalky before firing — this is completely normal.
-
Due to the kiln firing process, slight variations in colour, texture, or finish may occur and are considered normal.
-
Once finished, leave your masterpiece with us — we’ll glaze and fire it for a glossy, permanent finish.
-
Speckle paints, squeeze bottles, and detail tools require only one thin coat.
-
Thicker application may increase the risk of firing defects.
-
Our team is happy to help if you’re unsure how much paint to use.
02
Choose Your Supplies
-
Grab your turntables, aprons, brushes, sponges, stencils, stamps, and design tools from our supply station.
-
Use one brush per colour, or rinse and dry before reusing.
-
You can sketch your design lightly with a pencil — don’t worry, the marks will burn off in the kiln.
-
Try our Speckle Paints for a fun textured look, or Squeeze Bottles for small details. (Only one thin coat is needed — thicker paint may cause firing issues.)
-
Please keep the pins inside squeeze bottles to prevent clogging.
03
Pick Your Colours
-
Choose your favourite colours from our paint bar.
-
The colour tiles show what they’ll look like after firing — they’ll appear lighter before that.
-
Each bottle matches the sample tiles.
-
Please keep the large paint bottles at the paint station.
04
